Added 10/29 Another curve regarding the plates. The letters were supposed to be the receipts, but now people are starting to receive actually receipts. The 1-100 still need to wait for the 2nd letter. This may take up to a week or so. ***** Added 10/25 Receipts(letters) are starting to show up in mailboxes. They were mailed out in batches. It may take another week or so for you to receive your letter. The letter IS your receipt. ***** Added 10/23 The tags are out. There is at least one on the streets in Cumming. This person went into their tag office, without their receipt, and picked up their tag. If I were you, I would call your tag office first to make sure they will allow you to pick up your tag without your receipt. Do not forget to say the category is RT. IF they can't find it, tell them "Atlanta University of Alabama Alumni". ***** Added 10/21/08 (more information from our contact at the state):
We were told the letters (receipts) were printed out on Friday (10/17). They will take a few days to get mailed out. From there it will be two to three days before you receive them in your mailbox. This has been a long process, and we have been told different things. We can only go on what we have been told. So keep hanging in there. The tags are made. They are in the warehouse, and they are available to order. Please let us know if you have anymore questions...

*****Original Post: The license plates are now available to order through your County Tag Office. If you did not order a tag the first time around, now is your chance. Call or go by your Tag Office. If they are out of stock, they will issue you a temporary operating permit. In that case, the warehouse will mail your plate to you. If the County does not know about the Alabama license plates, tell them the plate category is “RT”. Question: What if I preordered my plate?
Answer: In the next few days you will receive a receipt for the $25 with instructions to go to your County Tag office and turn in your previous tag. You will pay any additional fees and taxes due. The county already has the $25 posted to your registration account. You should leave with the tag if the county has received their shipment or a temporary operating permit, and your tag will be shipped from the warehouse directly to you.
